KUTCHINSKY

Kutchinsky is a British jewelry brand that has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The company was founded in 1894 by Hirsch Kutchinsky, a skilled goldsmith and jeweler who had emigrated to London from Poland.

In 1893, Hirsch Kutchinsky and his family fled Poland and arrived in England with years of experience as court jewelers to Ludwig of Bavaria. They immediately set up a jewelry manufacturing company in London's East End. Morris, Hirsch's son, was later joined by his own sons Joseph and Solomon in 1930. Joseph, who was only 16 at the time, started at the bottom and learned all aspects of the business, including the importance of exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. Joseph's natural sales ability led to the thriving of the business, which moved to Knightsbridge in West London's Brompton Road in 1958.

Kutchinsky quickly gained a reputation for his fine craftsmanship and attention to detail, and his work soon caught the attention of some of the wealthiest people in London. By the early 20th century, the Kutchinsky name had become synonymous with luxury and quality.

One of the key features of Kutchinsky's jewelry was his use of unusual gemstones, such as black opals and Mexican fire opals, which he sourced from around the world. He also experimented with different metals and techniques, incorporating enamel, filigree, and other decorative elements into his designs.

During the 1920s and 30s, Kutchinsky became known for his Art Deco-inspired designs, which were characterized by geometric shapes, bold colors, and intricate patterns. He also created several iconic pieces during this period, including the "Mystery Set" ruby and diamond brooch, which was designed to give the impression that the stones were floating in the air.

In the post-World War II era, Kutchinsky continued to innovate, introducing new materials such as titanium and stainless steel into his designs. He also expanded the business, opening several new stores in London and exporting his jewelry to markets around the world.

Today, Kutchinsky remains a highly respected name in the world of luxury jewelry. The company continues to produce exquisite pieces using the finest materials and techniques, and many of Kutchinsky's masterworks can be found in museums and private collections around the world.
