FANCY COLOR SAPPHIRES

Sapphires are a type of mineral called corundum, and they come in a range of colors depending on the presence of different trace elements. The most common color of sapphire is blue, but sapphires can also be found in pink, yellow, green, purple, and orange, among other colors.

The history of multi-colored sapphires is not well-documented, but it is known that sapphires have been prized gemstones for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that sapphires had protective powers, and the Persians believed that the earth rested on a giant sapphire.

The formation of different colors of sapphires is due to the presence of trace elements such as iron, titanium, and chromium. For example, blue sapphires get their color from iron and titanium, while pink sapphires get their color from chromium. The intensity of the color depends on the amount of the trace element present.

Sapphires are found in many countries around the world, including Australia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Madagascar, among others. The number of colors that sapphires can come in is virtually limitless, and new colors and shades are still being discovered. Some of the more unusual colors of sapphire include color-changing sapphires that can change color depending on the lighting, and parti-colored sapphires that have two or more colors within the same stone.
